Charleston.
You guys, if you’ve never been to Charleston you’re really missing out! This little Southern Belle of a city is so worth the visit – I may or may not have started a list for our next trip…

In June we finally decided to go visit the Holy City for the first time – we set out on our eight hour drive with Roxanne in the backseat… I do love a road trip.

What a beautiful southern city! We stayed in an Airbnb just a short walk from the heart of downtown King Street. We arrived as it was getting dark, so after getting settled we went to the first place on my list, Leon’s Oyster Shop – I read about this place and their fried chicken on almost every blog I read when planning our trip and rightfully so, their fried chicken was amazing! Only coming in second to my Mama’s, of course 😉 Grab a side of hush puppies while you’re there!

Our apartment was right next door to Wild Flour Bakery – the Key Lime tart we picked up was fantastic! Our first day in town was rainy but that didn’t stop us from getting out and enjoying the palm tree lined streets. We browsed the Charleston City Market, admiring all of the beautiful handmade sweet grass baskets. We also took a stroll through the Spanish moss trees of the Unitarian Church graveyard on Archdale Street.

We escaped the rain for a bit and made a random stop at Smoke BBQ {DISCLAIMER: I do not believe in diets while on vacation… Food is part of the experience!} SO this place was delicious and EXACTLY what we needed after our morning of sightseeing! They do not mess around when it comes to portion sizes, I could only eat half of this glorious sandwich. Pictured below is the Cuban (bottom) made up of slow roasted pork, home style ham, house pickles, swiss & mojo aioli and the Beef n’ Chedda (top) all natural brisket, house pickled jalapeño & cheddar ale!

Day two consisted of sunshine (thank goodness), more exploring and yep, more FOOD!

For brunch we went to the highly recommended Poogan’s Porch – this place just oozes Southern Charm! They’re pet friendly and they even bring a big water bowl to the porch for your pup! Note: The horse carriage tours roll through about every 15 minutes… we quickly learned that Roxanne is not a fan of horses! Luckily we were the only ones on the porch for most of our meal.

I never met a Fried Green Tomato I didn’t like…

Chicken & Waffles // Shrimp & Grits!

Can we just take a moment… How precious are these two?

As we strolled around Charleston I couldn’t help but stop to photograph the adorable window boxes…

You have to make your way down to the iconic Rainbow Row, of course…

Pineapple fountain at Waterfront Park

Ice cream stop at Jeni’s!

We spent our third day visiting Angel Oak and Magnolia Gardens…

Angel Oak is estimated to be over 400 years old – definitely worth a visit!

Magnolia Plantation has a beautiful Garden Walk

The Swamp Walk is worth the visit! It was HOT on this day… but we did see an alligator – and then Roxanne was carried the rest of the way 🙂

Our date night at HUSK was definitely my favorite meal of the trip…

Remember how I said we don’t do diets while on vacation? Because if we did we would have totally missed out on the glorious treat that is Fried Chicken Skins *wipes drool from chin* did I mention they drizzle a Pimento Cheese “ranch” over top?

For dinner I had the most beautiful Confit Duck Leg that I have ever seen…

Off to the Gin Joint for a nightcap…

Before we came home we had to stop by the Charleston Farmers Market – We picked up breakfast from Farm Biscuit , some fresh produce, pimento cheese, homemade pasta & olives! I could spend every Saturday morning like that…

Thank you for being the cutest, Charleston – Can’t wait to comeback!
